Options to Achieve a High School Diploma in Alberta

Learn what the minimum graduation requirements are for a student to attain an Alberta High School Diploma.
- High School Equivalency Diploma
If you are a person who is 19 years or older as of September 1st of the current school year and have been out of school for at least 10 consecutive months, you can earn life experience credits towards this diploma.
- Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) - Alberta Education website
This credential replaces the GED which is no longer available in Canada. Adults who do not have a high school diploma but need a credential can contact the Calgary Learning Institute (403-285-3555).
Important - Mature Student Status
If you were 19 years of age as of September 1st of the current school year, or a holder of a previously awarded Alberta High School Diploma, you may be eligible for Mature Student Status and receive special provisions.
